Saffron starts on site at former rugby club land in Wymondham

Published: 10th May 2022

We are celebrating the start on site on one of our largest land led developments. We purchased the old Wymondham Rugby Club land in May 2021 and work has begun to provide much needed affordable homes.

With support from Homes England, the site will see 90 new homes, 29 will be Shared Ownership, and 61 for affordable rent. They will consist of 1, 2 and 3 bed houses and bungalows and 4 bed houses, all fitted with Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP). The ASHPs will provide enough heat for the home and water and produces lower carbon emissions leading to lower fuel bills.

James Francis, CEO at Saffron, said: “This is a great example of how projects can deliver environmental and social goals. I’m delighted work is now underway on providing much needed quality and sustainable homes in South Norfolk.”

Mark Gosling, Construction Manager at Saffron added: “I’m really pleased we have been able to come together with our partners to mark the start of this exciting new development. The energy efficiency of the 90 new homes will not only benefit our tenants but the environment too. Our Shared Ownership properties also provide a great opportunity for those wanting to get on the housing ladder.”

The development is being built by experienced property developer Lovell Partnerships and Simon Medler, regional managing director of Lovell in East Anglia, said: “Wymondham is such a sought after area with the market town’s thriving town centre, heritage, history and local schools, along with excellent links to Norwich and Cambridge. Customers are increasingly looking for modern, environmentally friendly features and technologies in their homes, and we are excited to be working with Saffron on this project to build quality homes in South Norfolk. We are confident that these homes will be well received by locals.”

The development is due for completion in February 2024.
